This location, which claims to be the "original" Legends American Grill (out of six), is tucked away in a strip mall off of 60th and Ashworth in West Des Moines. I've eaten at two other Legends locations before, but this was my first time here. The dining area was smaller than others, though there was still a substantial amount of seating. The bar spans the middle section of the room with everyone else sitting at high or low tables and chairs. I ordered the Pepper Jack Chicken sandwich and Legends fries (a seasoned waffle fry, one of their trademarks). The sandwich arrived with pepper jack cheese, two crispy strips of bacon and the optional lettuce, tomatoes and crunchy pickle slices, all on a real dinner plate. The sandwich was excellent (as were the others I've tried before, including the signature Legends Burger). The Legends fries go best with a side of ranch dipping sauce and an ice cold soda. TVs are abundant around the room and they offer free wireless internet. I wasn't able to determine which specific network was their's, but I was able to connect. Our waitress was very kind and did a good job checking in on my friend and I, always offering to refill a glass or get anything else we needed. Legends American Grill has a large, varied menu and has several of their own specialties that will keep me coming back again and again.

First thing I ordered was a tito's on the rocks. Small glass small pour. A lot of TV's but on the small side. I really just can't see why places intentionally pour light. It's not rocket science, good pours = more visits and more drinks. More volume = more dollars. I may try this again but if the pours are still weak, I'll never be back.

Great service and food for our team dinner. Big group and desperate checks didn't phase them. Agree with the others that it could be a little cleaner, but for our needs it was just fine.

It takes a special kind of talent to mess up Mexican food. They had a special on a fajita wrap which tasted more like a Japanese spring roll than anything else. Also mega salty. Someone apparently must have gotten a license for creativity that should be revoked! I am definitely not expecting a surprise Japanese-Mexican fusion at a place called 'Legends American Grill'.

Before Legends became a central Iowa sports bar chain there was the original on Ashworth. It still stands and even if you have been to the other Legends this one is a different cat compared to the others. The chains all tend to have the same layout and generic design, this one however doesn't follow that. The dining area is a little smaller and the layout is way different. The menu here has some different options compared to the others. It's still a good place to come watch a game and they still have a good selection of beers. I would say even if you have been to the other chain Legends you should at least give the original a try at least once.

This is the original and it shows the age. We visited on a Tuesday night and the bar was busy but the rest of the place was close to empty. We sat for 10 minutes before a waitress stopped and said she didn't have our table but she would get our drinks started. When she got back with our drinks she said she would take our order because our waitress was still busy. We ordered nachos, a burger, and a salad which were delivered after about 15 minutes by who I assume was our waitress. The nachos were greasy and had very few chips. The burger was on the lower end of good and the salad was a simple salad but good. We asked our waitress for additional chips but she disappeared for another 30 minutes and didn't show up with the chips until another waitress had already brought our bill, we paid, and we were getting our coats on to leave. The decor in this place is outdated and boring. The place isn't dirty but not clean either. It appears the focus is on the bar and the rest of the place is neglected. We won't be trying it again. Service=D- (not an F because of the waitress who noticed us not getting service and stepped in) Food=C- Atmosphere= D

We used to eat at the Ashworth Legends quite a lot but stopped after they opened the new one on 50th Street figuring Ashworth would close. It's been several years now and my wife and I started going to Ashworth again and we are very pleased. Same great food, not as crowded as 50th and the waitresses are on the ball! Best service in town!

Tenderloin sandwich with cheddar and jalapeños was awesome! Get the stuffed mushrooms...stuffed with Italian sausage and cottage cheese smothered in mozzarella. Different and so delicious. Beer selection on draft is pretty good too. I love getting my west of the Mississippi beer when I'm traveling west of the Mississippi!

I have eaten here on multiple occasions and never really been to impressed. Just typical dive bar food in an upscale looking bar. They have about 30 42" HiDef TVs in this place and a tv on every table in the bar. I mean I'm a fan of TV and all, but this was a little much. I would rather have my food taste better. The legend fries (waffle) are pretty good. All the main courses are nothing out of the ordinary.
